Through our Summer 2023 GGM-Chi Digital Magazine GGM-Chi teens explore the following prompt:
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” -Coretta Scott King
Who is a leading figure in the city of Chicago that your group admires for their dedication to positively affecting Chicago’s communities? It could be a local business owner giving back, a family member who volunteers their time, an alderperson dedicated to their neighborhood, and many more.
The grassroots movements (grassroots movements and organizations use collective action from the local level to effect change at the local, regional, national or international level) of our local neighborhoods and communities greatly impact our day-to-day lives, and remind us all that meaningful change (i.e. social, economic, environmental, political, etc.) begins at home.
We are a diverse group of people, coming from neighborhoods all over Chicago, so let’s learn about those important individuals that make the city of Chicago unique and vibrant!
Choose one individual in the city of Chicago that you believe is making positive change for the people of Chicago. In groups of 2-4 people, design your GGM-Chi Summer 2023 final project around documenting this person’s story and their impact within the city. You are creating a “profile feature”. A "profile feature" is a journalism piece that explores the background and character of a particular person.

It could be a teacher dedicated to their students, a coach that inspires self-assurance, a local business owner giving back, a family member who volunteers their time, and many more.
